This joint special session with IPS Japan (Information Processing Society of Japan) SIG-CVIM (Special Interest Group on Computer Vision and Image Media) provides an opportunity to students who are close to finishing, or who have recently finished, their doctoral degree to present their research and to have discussion with other conference participants.

Application (CLOSED)

Eligible student who would like to participate should send an application to the general chairs by March 13th 2017. The application should include in one pdf file a one-page summary introducing the applicant and his/her research, also stating the defense date, and a note from his/her advisor agreeing to the presentation and the publication as well as confirming the date of defense.

Eligibility

Ph.D. students in machine vision and related areas who will defend their Ph.D. theses by the end of March 2017, or those who have finished their Ph.D. since April 2016.

Paper

The participating student must prepare a paper substantially describing his/her thesis (16 pages maximum in a format similar to MVA paper format, whose details will be sent to each applicant). The paper will be published in the technical report of the IPSJ SIG-CVIM. The copyright of the paper must be transferred to IPS Japan. The deadline for the paper will be April 17th, 2017 (JST). Outstanding papers selected by IPSJ SIG-CVIM will be recommended for submission to IPSJ Transactions on Computer Vision and Applications (CVA), whose acceptance will be decided through the review process of CVA.

Travel award

There is no travel award specifically for this special session. Students who are also presenting a paper at MVA2017 may be eligible for MVA2017 travel support.

Presentation

The participating student will give a presentation in the MVA/CVIM special session for doctoral theses that will be held during the main conference. The allotted time for each presentation will change subject to the number of the presentations in the special session.
